MOTOR INSURANCE
Motor insurance is a policy that protects you financially if your vehicle is involved in an accident, stolen, or damaged.
The policy is categorised in to the following:
Third-Party Only (TPO) – This is the minimum legal requirement. It covers injuries or damage you cause to other people or their property, but not your own vehicle.
Third-Party, Fire and Theft – Includes everything in TPO, plus protection if your vehicle is stolen or damaged by fire. However, this policy has lost popularity in Kenya
Comprehensive Cover – The most extensive option. It covers third-party liabilities, theft, fire, and damage to your own vehicle, “even if you’re at fault.”
Motor Commercial Cover
Motor commercial cover is a type of motor insurance designed specifically for vehicles used for business or commercial purposes—like pickups, lorries, vans, tippers, and trucks. It protects both the vehicle and the business from financial losses arising from accidents or other risks while the vehicle is in use.
Here’s what it typically covers:
Accidental damage to the vehicle, including collisions and overturning
Theft of the vehicle or its accessories
Fire damage, including self-ignition or external explosions
Third-party liabilities, such as injury, death, or property damage caused to others
Emergency medical expenses for passengers and third parties
Towing and recovery costs after an accident
Special perils like floods, earthquakes, hurricanes, or volcanic eruptions
Motor Private Cover
Motor private cover is insurance for vehicles used strictly for personal, non-commercial purposes—like your everyday car for commuting, errands, or family trips. It’s designed to protect you, your vehicle, and others on the road from financial losses due to accidents or other risks.
Here’s what it typically covers under a comprehensive policy:
Accidental damage to your vehicle (including collisions)
Theft of the vehicle or its accessories
Fire damage, whether accidental or due to self-ignition
Third-party liabilities—injury, death, or property damage caused to others
Medical expenses for you and your passengers
Towing and recovery after an accident
Natural disasters like floods, earthquakes, or storms
Windscreen replacement, entertainment units, and non-standard accessories (if declared)
Political violence and terrorism (optional add-on)
Courtesy car while yours is being repaired (in some plans)
